(“The Last Economist”)

     With all the theories floating around about how we can cure our economic crisis, one only needs to be reminded of the story of an ancient king.

     The king summoned the brightest and smartest economists and directed that they solve the kingdom’s economic woes.  One by one they presented the king with complicated and conflicting plans and strategies. Dissatisfied with their answers, the king banished half of them and ordered the remainder to devise a solution.  Again each failed to create an understandable plan and one by one they were banished until the last economist was left standing.

     The final economist, while trembling with fear, told his majesty that he had solved the country’s recession which could be stated in 9 simple words:

“There is no such thing as a free lunch.”

     Unfortunately, our elected officials never read the story about “The Last Economist.”
